Surprise for businessman as comment used to boost funeral book sales

A quote given to the New York Times by a Cornish financial expert is being used to promote a book which offers tips on how to get low cost and stress free funerals.

Peter McGahan, managing director of Truro and Wadebridge based independent financial advisers, Worldwide Financial Planning, was surprised to receive an email alert linking him with the book – ‘Rest in Peace. Insider’s Tips to the Low Cost Less Stress Funeral’.

Written by Washington D.C based R. Brian Burkhardt, who is also known as Your Funeral Guy.

“I was checking my email when I found I’d received a Google Alert with a link back to Burkhardt’s website,” said Peter, who lives in Mawgan Porth.

“He’d used a quote that I’d previously given for a New York Times article about the issues surrounding the high cost of funerals.

“It’s quite funny that from here in Cornwall I am being used to plug a book produced in America on how to have a cheap funeral!”

Peter’s quote stated: “Much of funerals is built around irrational fear and guilt. Face it, and save some money for the beer afterwards.”

Burkhardt responded to this by saying: “ He (McGahan) may make a joke, but planning ahead, although not a pleasant idea can most definitely help keep costs down when the inevitable time comes that you pass away. This also eliminates much stress off of family members who will be mourning.”

Peter added: “Seeing as he used my quote I think I might get in touch and ask for a free copy so I can what other tips I can pick up!”
